This is a hot button issue. Some Believers and denominations believe that a Christian can have a demon and some believe that you can’t.

What does the Word say? That will settle the issue once and for all. Right? Well, as Christians we believe the Word of God is ‘inerrant’.
Inerrant means ‘INCAPABLE OF BEING WRONG’. We believe the Bible is the inerrant Word of God, ‘incapable of being wrong.
BUT HERE WE HAVE A PROBLEM.
We know that the Word of God is inerrant, but the way people interpret the Bible is not the same, and because of that they end up with different thoughts and ideas concerning deliverance.

Even if we as Christians all believe that the Bible is the inerrant Word, the way we were taught the Bible, and what we were taught about the Bible colors the lens of our understanding, and as a result we come up with different thoughts and opinions.
Our definition of what defines a Christian, and what can happen to a Christian, and what God allows in a Christian and what He doesn’t allow, all form our thoughts on whether a Christian can, or can not have a demon, and still we all believe that the Bible is absolute truth.

Very good and genuine Word believing Christians are divided on the subject of whether or not one can lose his salvation, or whether he cannot. People can get very heated over the subject of ‘Eternal Secuity’, ‘Once Saved Always Saved’, and those who believe, ‘Examine yourselves and see whether you be in the faith’.
SO, WHAT ARE WE TO DO?
Well, I’m going to make my case from Scripture, reason, and experience that a Christian (under certain conditions) ‘CAN BE INVADED BY DEMONS’.
PLEASE BE OPEN-MINDED AND HEAR ME OUT. AT THE LEAST YOU NEED TO ALLOW YOURSELF TO SEE BOTH SIDES OF THE ISSUE. AMEN?
THE THREE PROOFS:
EXPERIENCE:
Though I believed from my early teachings that a Christian could have an evil spirit, I was convinced further by what I actually saw concerning Christians not only being harassed but invaded.
A Christian lady from the church that I was pastor of was so troubled in her mind, and thought she was going crazy, that after the Sunday service thought to commit herself to a mental institution on Monday morning.

I had just preached a message on ‘deliverance‘, and at the close of the service, I invited those who wanted a ‘DELIVERANCE PRAYER PRAYED OVER THEM’ to come forward, and she did.
This lady had no idea whatsoever that she had a demon spirit in her, after all, she was a Christian, and Christians can’t have demons, right? Well, she was to find out quickly.

Before I continue, you may ask, “HOW DO YOU KNOW THAT SHE ACTUALLY WAS A TRUE CHRISTIAN? That’s a fair question.
Well according to Scripture and what most evangelicals believe, is that when a person hears the gospel message that God loved the world so much that He gave His only begotten Son, Jesus, to die on the cross for our sins, that whoever would believe and come to Him should not perish, but have everlasting life”.
This lady had done that. She loved God, and followed Jesus in obedience according to Scripture. She attended church faithfully. She paid her tithes. She showed love for her brothers and sisters. She had a sound prayer life.

She met all the criteria for what the Scripture says, makes up a true born-again believer. But what was to happen next shocked and surprised her beyond words.
She was kneeling at the altar, and when I passed by her, she looked me in the face, and in desperation said, “Brother Leonard, help me”.
Instantly, I discerned a ‘spirit’, and called out, “WHO ARE YOU?” The demon instantly spoke through this lady’s lips and said, “LUST”.

Now some Christians don’t believe you should ever speak to demons, or ever ask them any questions.
JESUS DID.
He asked the demoniac that lived among the tombs and cut himself, and screamed out in anguish constantly. He could not be bound with ropes or even chains. (Matt. 8:28-32; = Mark 5:1-20)
JESUS TALKED PAST THE POSSESSED MAN, DIRECTLY TO THE DEMON AND ASKED, “WHAT IS YOUR NAME”, and he said, “MY NAME IS LEGIONS, FOR WE ARE MANY”.
If we aren’t to ever speak to a demon, why then did Jesus ask the demon his name? Jesus is our pattern and example. We are to follow Him.

We are to do what He does. Just like he told His disciples, “The Son can do nothing, except what He sees the Father doing, and whatever the Father does, the Son (Jesus) does also”
Again, remember, we are followers of Jesus. Jesus spoke to ‘Legion’, and Legion answered Him, and gave Him information. Speaking to a demon can give us valuable information that will weaken them, and help us get that spirit to leave.
True, Jesus who knows all things didn’t need that information in order to cast that demon out, but it never-the-less did weaken Legion.

Jesus, showed us by example how it was done, for our sake’s and because it does weaken them, it gives us an advantage over them, (WHICH WE CALL, ‘THE LAW OF FIRST MENTION’).
Then we can also expect to do it, and repeat it again.
What is impossible to do in the natural, and could only be done by the Spirit of God, can be done again, and repeated, because of our understanding of the ‘LAW OF FIRST MENTION‘.
Speaking past her to the demon in her I asked, “WHAT IS YOUR NAME?” He replied, “LUST”.
“COME OUT“, I commanded.
“No, she’s ours. We love her. We’ve been in her since she was a child”.
We need to understand that many demons enter at conception in the womb, long before the child is ever born, while other demons enter later in life.

Many of these spirits entered in the womb and came down through the sins of their ancestry (not dealt with) from generations past.
Or they could have entered the womb through such things as, this child was unwanted, or the mother wanted a girl instead of a boy, or wanted a boy instead of a girl.
That kind of an attitude is sinful and opens the door for a spirit of ‘REJECTION‘ to enter a child.
If you’re guilty of that, ask God to forgive you of that attitude, and pray over your child, and command that spirit of ‘REJECTION’ to leave them in Jesus name. Watch the difference it makes in their life.
“COME OUT!” “NO, SHE’S OURS, WE’VE BEEN IN HER SINCE SHE WAS A CHILD. SHE (IS) SUCH A BEAUTIFUL BODY. WE’VE HAD SUCH A GOOD TIME HERE.”
THE MYTH, ‘DEMONS CAN NOT TELL THE TRUTH’.
So, that is a good reason for you not to ask ‘spirits’ any questions, they tell us.
Here’s the Scripture that many Christians use to try and prove that demons can not tell the truth, and without careful thought one might conclude that, that’s what the Scripture is saying.

But I think after hearing what I have to say, and by using other scriptures and experience you will understand.
(John 8:44) “You are of your father the Devil, and the lusts of your father you will do. He was a murderer from the beginning and abode not in the truth. When he speaks a lie, he speak of his own: For he is a liar and the father of it”.

It is true that the devil and demons are liars, but that’s a far cry from advancing that reasoning from Satan is a liar to ‘SATAN IS INCAPABLE OF TELLING THE TRUTH’, because that isn’t true.
First of all, The Devil and all his demons (and fallen angels) dwelt in heaven for untold ages with God in great bliss before they made the fatal mistake of rebelling against God and they along with Lucifer were cast out. They know heaven and they know God.
They know, now, but not then, that God knows everything, and if they would lie God would punish them severely before their time. SO, THEY NEVER LIE TO GOD.
Satan the (Liar), never lies to his army of demons. If Satan lied to his own, how then could he give them accurate orders to pinpoint and attack the Christian, or the Church for destruction?

The answer is, ‘HE COULD NOT’. If he could only lie and not tell the truth it would only cause confusion and chaos in his kingdom, and it would counteract what Jesus said about Satan,
“If Satan cast out Satan, his kingdom would collapse and come to an end.
Remember, Jesus said, “a kingdom divided against itself cannot stand” (Matt. 12:26).
WE LEARN TRUTH FROM BOTH SIDES. GOD’S WORD, AND FROM WHAT ACTUALLY GOES ON IN SATAN’S KINGDOM.
We learn from the ‘INERRANT WORD’ that we can believe the Bible as absolute truth. It is our main source for formulating doctrine and our teachings.

It tells us how to get saved, and how to live a godly life. It tells us how we are to treat and love others, and it tells us how to have victory over every adverse situation in life. It also tells us how to battle the Devil and win.
But, to learn what Satan is up to out of his own mouth, and how and why he’s attacking us, gives us ammunition and insights on how to defeat him.
WHEN WHAT DEMONS SAY AND DO, ‘ACTUALLY CONFIRMS THE WORD, WE ARE SEEING REALITY IN ACTION, AND IT ENCOURAGES US IN THE LORD.
EXAMPLE: When this precious lady was going through deliverance and we were casting ‘spirits’ out of her. I prayed before the whole church who was witnessing this deliverance, “Heavenly Father, in Jesus name, I plead the blood of Jesus over this whole church.
Then the demon speaking through her lips said, “No, don’t do that, you don’t give us any place to hide, do you?

Did that spirit lie to us, or did he tell the truth? The Devil told the truth. When does the Devil ever encourage us? Did he not confirm the Word of truth by his terrified statement?
Yes, of course he did. Does not the Scripture tell us in Revelation 12:11 “And they (Christians) overcame him (Satan) by the ‘blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, and they loved not their lives unto the death”.
The Devil desperately trying to get us to stop praying encouraged us even further when this happened.
I told the church, “Church, pray like you’ve never prayed before, and when I said that, “the terrified demon spoke through this lady’s lips and said, “NO, DON’T PRAY”.

“THERE’S AN ANGEL STANDING BY EVERY PERSON IN THIS PLACE, AND YOUR PRAYERS ARE STRENGTHENING YOUR ANGELS, AND YOUR ANGELS ARE RECEIVING REINFORCEMENTS”.
PRAISE GOD, I COULD HAVE SHOUTED ALL OVER THE PLACE.
THEN WE REACHED THE MOUNTAIN PEAK OF ENCOURAGEMENT AND UNDERSTANDING.
The battle was intense. I prayed out loud and said, “Lord, send Your Warrior Angels to help us in this battle.

Less than thirty seconds later, “This lady going through deliverance, started moving across the front of the church, with the terrified demons saying, “No, not Michael, not Michael. Go back, go back.
Michael is a mighty Arch-Angel, and Captain of the Hosts of the Angelic armies of heaven, only under Jesus Christ Himself
Then the demon said through her lips again, “They’re not leaving, they’re waiting for us.”

After the service, this lady told me, “I saw the angels as bright lights coming to our aid, and row after row of angels in perfect order with Michael their Leader at the very front.
I told you from the beginning that there are three things by which we can identify someone who has a demon. I only got through the first of these, EXPERIENCE.
The three again are:
EXPERIENCE; SCRIPTURE; REASON, and not necessarily in that order of importance. But it’s my way of making the subject most understandable. Again, I make the point, ‘when what demons say and do through those oppressed confirm the Word of God, that is ‘REALITY IN ACTION’.
